The film

Synopsis: Halim has been married to Mina for many years, and together they run a traditional caftan shop in the medina of Salé, Morocco. The couple has always lived with Halim's secret: his homosexuality, which he has learned to keep hidden. Mina's illness and the arrival of a young apprentice will disrupt this equilibrium. United in their love, each will help the other confront their fears.

• During location scouting for her previous film Adam , Maryam Touzani had a decisive encounter in the medina of Salé with a man who ran a ladies' hair salon, who inspired the character of Halim (Saleh Bakri).

• The director wanted to make a sensory film: " With Virginie Surdej, we wanted to highlight the work of the maalem in the beauty of its details. The light passes through the different places and helps us to reach the depth of the characters' emotions ."

• Maryam Touzani and costume designer Rafika Benmaimoune worked extensively beforehand on the choice of colors: those of the caftans as well as those of the characters' clothing. Halim possesses an innate elegance that the filmmaker wanted to convey through his attire.

• The Blue of the Caftan has won several awards in France and internationally: Jury Prize at the Marrakech International Film Festival (2022), Best Director and Best Actor (Saleh Bakri) Award at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (2022), Best Actor (Saleh Bakri), Best Actress (Lubna Azabal) Award and Jury Prize at the Valenciennes 2 Cinema Festival (2022).

• The film was nominated in the official "Un Certain Regard" selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
