Sud-asiatiques, ancrage pluriels
→ 09:00 PM
10, rue Maurice Grimaud - Paris
Through two short films and a presentation of paintings and photographs by the artist Douceur Erajh .
Despite the increasing visibility of LGBTI people within our South Asian communities, queerness remains largely taboo. How can we, through artistic spaces, create spaces and times that allow us to fully embody our identities, beyond the single, white, and hegemonic LGBTI framework? This discussion will explore how art can open up spaces for expression, storytelling, and self-reappropriation.
We will also address the issue of identity among adopted people. Too often, this is considered solely through a legal lens, as if it were simply a matter of paperwork or administrative status. Dominant narratives frequently emphasize the idea of loss, a feeling of being in-between, or even rejection by one's own community. But what happens when adopted people are fully integrated into their communities, whether in their country of origin or within their diasporas?
This conversation will propose to reflect on that moment when adoption ceases to be the central element of identity to become one dimension among others, allowing one to fully inhabit a South Asian identity, in all its complexity and plurality.
