Queens of Joy (Ukraine, 2025) by Olga Gibelinda
Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:20 PM
Kyiv, February 2022. As war breaks out and bombs rain down on the city, three souls choose to stay. Oleksandr, aka Marlen Scandal, a legendary figure in drag culture; Monroe, a transgender woman and media icon searching for her truth; and Aura, a drag queen and soldier who is gradually discovering who she truly is.
The trio join forces to organize a charity drag show in support of Ukraine and its defenders, proving that art and culture can be a powerful weapon of resistance and solidarity. In basements, clubs, and shelters, their bodies become manifestos: art and joy as the last bastions of resistance against war. Queens of Joy reveals the power of individual freedom and the strength of the LGBTQIA+ community when it stands up to violence. In this film, director Olga Gibelinda combines artistic sensitivity with documentary precision.
