Battle Waacking Whack Else au Festival Everybody !

For this fifth edition of the Everybody Festival, the waacking battle is back in the Halle du Carreau du Temple, with the desire to bring back flavour, extravagance and energy, all carried by Hip-Hop and R'n'B sounds from the 2000s!

A decidedly Y2K (meaning the 2000s) atmosphere, designed to bring together all generations, from the youngest to the most experienced.

The battle is organized by Bartivy, who is also on the turntables, and features renowned dancers, starting with super guest Dicky Miles aka Kiddy Smile , an iconic figure in the ballroom scene, a multidisciplinary artist and queer activist.

What is waacking?

Waacking originated in LGBTQ+ clubs within the African American and Latino communities of 1970s Los Angeles . Its name is derived from the insult "You wack." This discipline, a close relative of voguing, is danced primarily with the arms and allows practitioners to create a character, assert their identity, and explore their creativity. The gestures of waacking It draws inspiration from the world of silent films and Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo and Marilyn Monroe, and subverts the codes of glamour associated with the white upper classes. The waackers dance to the music that was all the rage at the time: disco.

After a long period of neglect, waacking returned to the forefront in the 2010s. It is now practiced in events and battles around the world and no longer just to disco sounds.
