💦 Ciné-Gouines #4. For this very, very, very last time before summer and farewells to @flechedor20, here's a program concocted in sweat, tears, constraint, and the sweltering heatwave 💦
BLOODSISTERS: LEATHER, DYKES, AND SADOMASOCHISM by Michelle Hendelmann (1995, 70 minutes)
🎯In the midst of the obscenity trials that marked the 1990s in the United States, BLOODSISTERS was targeted by the American Family Association, shocked by the sight of "naked women whipping each other, blood running down their bare breasts, shocking body piercings, and other scenes glorifying a sadomasochistic lesbian lifestyle." Damn!!
🥵BLOODSISTERS is not only a legendary film, but also a unique historical document about a group of lesbians ostracized by their own community: bad girls who spread leather and BDSM culture in 1980s and 90s San Francisco. Rather than succumb to gloomy theorizing and frigid polemics, its members preferred to dedicate themselves, with poetry and hedonism, to all the kinks the alphabet allows.
This film explores all facets of it in images, and through the stories of mythical figures, who would probably be delighted to be your queer DADDY or MOMMY: Pat(rick) Califia, Peggy Sue, Tala Brandeis, @skeeteryoga, BC Cliver, & many others.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with @llootgieter Lou Lootgieter, author and specialist in lesbian cultures and sexualities, about the place of sexual culture in lesbian culture today:
🌶How have rights mobilizations influenced the place of sex in lesbian public life?
🌶Why are events surrounding sexuality underdeveloped?
🌶Do lesbians really talk more about board games than erotic games?
