Alison Bechdel is the author of the Dykes to Watch Out For series (1983-2008), which gave rise to the famous "Bechdel Test," an indicator of sexism in film and fiction, as well as a trilogy of graphic autobiographies: Fun Home (2006), Are You My Mom? (2012), and The Secret of Superhuman Strength (2021). In her brand-new graphic novel, The $$ivée (Denoël Graphic 2025), translated by Lili Sztajn and colored by her partner Holly Rae Taylor, she brings these two facets of her world together and, with subtlety and her trademark humor, continues to ask the thought-provoking, and often controversial, questions that are so prevalent in the United States today.

As part of the "Out Loud, Literature and Translation" series, the session will be led by Hélène Tison, a teacher-researcher at the University of Tours, author of "Female Cartoonists in the US: Bad Girls and Invisible Women " (Routledge, 2023).
