Spectacle : Le Rainbow Day & Night
Rainbow Day & Night is a highlight dedicated to LGBTQIA+ artists, programmed and organized by La Magnanerie, at the Théâtre du Train Bleu in Avignon since 2024. At the crossroads of theatre, dance and performance, it unfolds a diverse program mixing shows, meetings and parties.
In a context of persistent discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people and increasing obstacles faced by performing artists, Rainbow Day & Night stands out as a space for visibility and dialogue. This important event will take place for the first time in Paris over the course of one evening, at the invitation of the MAIF Social Club.
The evening will continue with an eclectic and techno DJ set by Ukrainian artist and activist Jenia Gatash at Les Souffleuses bar, in the heart of the Marais district (Paris 4th arrondissement). Because dancing is activism!
PROGRAM :
- 6:30 PM – “Creating, Fighting, Transmitting: What Stories of LGBTQIA+ Activism Today?” A discussion moderated by Javel Habibi, with Nour Joseph Gebrael, choreographer and dancer, and Christophe Martet, journalist, activist, and co-founder of Act Up and Yagg. Moderated by Javel Habibi – artist, director, and drag queen who conceived the legendary parties at La Flèche d'Or – this roundtable brings together Nour Joseph Gebrael and Christophe Martet to examine the legacies and current forms of struggles for LGBTQIA+ people and artists. From the AIDS years marked by the actions of Act Up-Paris to contemporary mobilizations against far-right attacks (such as the actions of the collective Les Inverti.es), how do queer communities transform anger into narratives, solidarity, or artistic expression? Between memory, creation and resistance, this encounter highlights the political power of the arts to keep struggles alive, transmit stories and invent freer and fairer futures.
- 7:20 p.m. – حمار الليل Hmar Lil – Sleepwalker
Blending theatre and song, Hmar Lil is the story of Asmaa, a young refugee. It intertwines her political activism, her trips back and forth to the prefecture, her Pokémon stories, and her instant attraction to a woman "as beautiful as the revolution."
Asmaa, a young queer refugee, arrives in France shortly after the release of Pokémon Go. Like other refugees from war-torn Syria, South Sudan, and Afghanistan, she searches for her place. Stuck in her tiny maid's room, too small to rent, she dreams of being Pikachu—an alter ego capable of traveling through space and time and reliving memories. Asmaa Samlali sings in Amazigh and Arabic about her attempt to build a new life, accompanied by Zoé Kammarti's music and live translation. Despite the countless obstacles in her path, she prepares for a drama school audition and imagines rituals to heal her wounds.
- 8:45 pm – Cabaret Amour – In joy, let's resist!
A magical and unique space-time, Cabaret Amour is a poetic-political response to the world around us! A poetic vessel to embark on a journey into care, which blends different universes and artistic practices and invites us to inhabit the world differently.
We wake up one morning thinking that the world is in a bad way. And that we are too.
How to do it? What to do? To make the world a better place…At the helm, Lylybeth Merle, performer, poet and royal mistress of ceremonies, invites various artists, belonging to slam and performance, as well as burlesque and drag, to create an exploration where their practices meet.
Featuring: Lylybeth Merle , DJombo Godess , Joli Younes , Drag Couenne
- 10pm – Electro and techno DJ set by Ukrainian artist Jenia Gatash, at the bar Les Souffleuses , in the heart of the Marais (Paris 4th).
